Ok, makes sense. I was amused at the thought of running sponge filters or even an AC on my aquarium.

I just wonder if the sponge filter would effectively keep the water clean? The AC filters are the best HOB filters out there. Sadly like I said, there are some down sides to them like constant splashing water noises when the water level drops and also how bulky they are. I wonder if two AC 50 would be enough for a 55 if I don't go the sponge filter right?

I don't care for canister filters. Too complicated to setup, clean and way too expensive. I tried several awhile back and they are turned out the same way.. returned to amazon.

The only thing I can suggest is to go old school and put in an under gravel filter and use a powerhead to power it. That should fit your requirements.

Question for you. Why no canister? Just curious.

Nevermind you answer the question when I was posting this reply. LOL

What two or three internal power filters? Would be quiet for sure. I also dislike hob filters. But I’m loving my new canister.
