Overflow box?

Hey guys, so I'm looking at setting up a sump for my tank instead of using my canister filter, my tank is a 40 gallon (long I think) tank and it's not drilled so I need an overflow box to use with the sump I'm getting. I was wondering if maybe there's someone out there who makes them or knows of someone who makes cost-effective overflow boxes that aren't going to absolutely destroy my wallet? Or might know where I can get one that's a good size for my tank that, again, won't break my wallet? (Maybe even a DIY instruction so I can make my own without spending a whole lot). Thanks in advance for any info!

Life without an aquarium is just flat out boring, Unfortunately like most in the hobby I'm highly susceptible to Multiple-Tank-itis.

Eshopps has two options - I have used both. Started off with the HOB style as I was dead scared to drill my tank. During routine maintenance, I carelessly cracked the black box. Instead of replacing it with an identical one, I opted to drill my tank and install the slim line eclipse box. Hands down much better. Drilling your tank sounds daunting but just be patient and follow the instructions and its very easy and do-able.

ModularMarine overflow

If you decide to drill your tank, check out ModularMarine. You can order them from their website directly or you can buy it over on EvilBay. I've been using one for close to 6 months now and its great. They can also customize them for you any which way (most of the time for free). I highly recommend them.

Ive used the Eshopps Eclipse slim overflow before and I didn't care for it for two reasons: One being its noisy, and two the stated gph rating is exaggerated.

I'll add that the boxes MM sells are ridiculously overbuilt, using 1/4" and 3/8" cast acrylic, they weigh a ton and make me more scared of breaking the tank than breaking them. Plus, the Uni-seals they use allow for easy pipe adjustment without the finality of glued bulkheads. Just tape the drill guide as high on the outside of the tank as you can, and drill away! For a 40gal freshwater, the 800gph box would be fine with a bean overflow. I have the 1200 on a 75 and have the siphon stopped down to half with a Sicce 2.0 500gph pump going full blast from the sump.
