I put 6 Ghost shrimp in my tank a while back, and have noticed a couple of times a shell from a shrimps head laying around the tank...
at first I assumed that it was from a dead shrimp.. but I was recently able to count 6 shrimp... My only conclusion is that they outgrow thier shells occasionaly and shed them? Molting, much like a snake would?

BTW these shrimp REALLY grew... the largest was 1 inch a month ago and is nearing 2 inches now.. the largest ghost shrimp I have ever seen.

as amy crustaceans, shrimps do molt. So do lobsters, crayfish etc.

They will leave their "shell" lying around, and since you've mentioned that they grew, it is another indicator that they do molt.

Make sure you leave the shell in the tank. The shrimp will eat the shell and use it as a source of calcium.

Yeah! Leave that in the tank for the other fish to eat, then they will molt, too!!!
