Anyone else seen this

When my lights are one I get a higher ph reading in my 12l. When lights are off I get a nice swing down. I am using a planted plus fugeray it is a tank with Amazonia with about 3/4 tank with dhg and other part baby tears. With fissidens and min xmas on a tree stump with onko stone.

I am reading it with a milwaukee sms122. I have used 4 of mine to test and all read the same. I have calibrated and checked

Any ideas why

Higher CO2 concentrations lead to lower pH. When plants are photosynthesizing they absorb CO2 in large amounts if they are growing well. This could explain the pH rise if you don't have CO2 supplementation or if any present CO2 supplementation is not enough to match the rate of the plants' growth.
At night plants stop photosynthesizing but undergo cellular respiration still (they are eukaryotic), releasing CO2. During the day the CO2 taken in balances this, but there is no elimination of CO2 at night. This leads to higher CO2 concentrations and a subsequent drop in pH.

How much of a pH swing? From what to what?

It's normal for pH to drip at night from CO2, as explained by Axelrodi202. They're gradual so no one in the tank is harmed in the process. If you run CO2, turn it off at night. Unless there's something unusual going on and the pH drops obscenely low, I wouldn't worry about it.

That's why I don't add co2 in my shrimp rack. One less thing to worry about. However, My cousin runs co2 in his PRL shrimp tank with a ph controller to keep the ph stable. It is too fanzy for me, but maybe you can look it up?

I am going to mess with moving my light higher so growth is not as much. I don't mess with co2 in my shrimp tanks either. This is just normal swings I think do to the heavy plant growth

I'm guessing you are running it at 0 kh? Maybe bump that up to 1-2 shouldnt harm the shrimp but might level out the ph swings a bit?

Any shrimp deaths? Have you checked your other tanks for this kind of swing?

If success or failure of this planet and of human beings depended on how I am and what I do. How would I be? What would I do?

My thought exactly. Not enough buffer in the water.

It's CO2. See-Oh-Two. Not C02 (see-zero-two).
