CRS and black diamond sand

I've been thinking of adding crs to my growing addiction. I have a question but first some info on my tap water and other tanks. Straight from tap Ph 7 aged ph 6.8. Straight from tap my tds is a whopping 28. I have to use minerals to raise my gh for my pfr. I have several tanks and bowls (all planted) ranging from 1.5 vase to a 20 tall. My substrate in some is black diamond grit over a small amount of MGOPM and the black diamond alone with root tabs in others. Ph ranges between 6.4 in some and 6.8 in others. All but one tank has drift wood (oak and maple) that I have collected from the trails where we ride our four wheelers. They were roots from trees uprooted for many many years. Now my question, would it be possible to raise crs and actually have them breed for me without using a buffering substrate?

I believe if you use a remineralizer to raise the gh you will be golden with that tds and ph
