there are more than a few options out there but Salty Shrimp GH+ is a great choice and easy to find online unlike some of the other choices.

also check out this page for parameters.

Here's what has worked really well for me:

12 gallon tank
ADA Amazonia soil
Eheim 2213 canister filter
RO water + Salty GH+ remineralizer
Temp around 72 degrees
Simple RO only water top-offs as needed every few days
Water change of maybe 20% every 3 weeks or so
Lots of moss + driftwood in the tank with an 8 hour light cycle
PH 6.4
GH 4-5
TDS 125

I started with about 20 or so mischlings, and the tank has absolutely taken off. Out of my mischlings, I have gotten blue bolts, wine reds, pandas (both red and black) black king kongs (mostly 1 bar), as well as a host of more mischlings. I now have set up additional tanks, and my goal is to move all the non TB shrimp out of this first tank and make it a TB only tank. However, given that it is almost filled with moss, this will take a while to accomplish - those babies hide really well. I have been really fortunate with this tank, and hope to replicate this setup to larger tanks. I have a 33L that has some mischlings in it from this first tank, and I counted 5 berried females over the weekend, so it looks to be a good start. I also have a 2nd 33L that I just finished cycling and will start moving some mischlings over to it this week. If I had to guess, I'd say a lot of the success has come from little to no tinkering with my setup. Once I had it set up, I just did basic RO top-offs and water changes when it handy to do so. I've also found starting with mischlings has been a lot of fun. They are much cheaper initially, and you never know for sure what is going to come out of the batch of babies.

If you have an active substrate, like ADA Amazonia, you end up with a relatively stable and low pH.

Gh+ will only alter gh. The aqua soil stabilizes ph. RO is the simplest way of doing things since it is a clean slate every time. Just take your ro add gh+ till you reach gh4-5 and boom your done. I make 5 gallons at a time, start with 5 gallons of rodi, add 5 mls of shirakura ca+ and that's it for my tb tank. No having to worry about raising tds like my royal's water.
Aqua soil may eat some gh for a couple weeks but you aren't adding shrimp so it should stabilize.

My KH tested out at 0. Also should mention that the tank is coming up on a year of setup, with about 10 months of that with shrimp in it.

this is all kinda worring me a bit since my ph, gh, and kh are not all that high from what they should be. my ph is about 7.2, gh is 7, kh is 4. im wondering if it would not be better just to mix the ro and tap. i dont like the idea of adding all kinds of things to ro i just have a feeling im going to screw it up some how. another reason to start playing now before shrimp lol.

so the soil will take the ph up to where it needs to be and keep it there right? i guess i will just have to test once i get the soil and test the ro in the next couple days to see what i need to do.

thanks for all the help every one. chemistry was something i didnt take in school so all this is new to me. ive done things way different with my reds and blacks, and oebt and red tigers liked my old tap. and neos well they are neos and use just about any water lol
