Water quality

question on TDS for Shrimp breeding..

I'm starting up a new shrimp tank and started doing some testing on the water. Tap water has a TDS of about 300 or so. I have a RO system as well that gets teh TDS down to 100, but it only generates about 2 gallons at a time. so it would take a couple of days to get enough for a partial water change.

Will RCS and CRS breed in water that is 300 TDS?

any other way to deal with high TDS out of tap?

CRS will very unlikely breed in 300 TDS. You generally don't want to go over 200 TDS for CRS.

and RCS can breed in practically anything.

I would look at the gH and kH of your tap water and see how much of each constitutes to your high TDS. These 2 parameters are more important VS TDS.

The RCS would do well in those parameters and, like Shrimpzoo said, the CRS not so much.

I'll back up what everyone said. Do look at your gh though.

my tap GH is about 6, and KH is about 1.

Funny thing is, I have a berried CRS in my other planted tank. I cannot say if they will ever hatch as I've not seen any shrimplets, but they are there.

I'm generally a little confused on KH vs. GH vs. TDS. I would like to avoid using RO water, but really would like to breed CRS. If high TDS and breeding CRS are mutually exclusive, then I guess I have to rethink generating RO on a constant basis.

any other ways to improve TDS given these parameters?
