Internal Breeder Box

So I want to start selective breeding with some of my shrimp. I have one of the mesh breeding box sitting around that go inside the tank.

I want to know since it's in the tank can't I keep the breeding pair for a longer period of time in the box?

Also since its a fine mesh how do you guys clean the bottom when it gets messy inside?

And would love anyone with personal experience actually doing this to chime in as to how successful it was.

PS: I know about the HOB ones I just don't have extra cash right now since I just drop a few K on a vacation lol.

just make sure you keep some plants in their with them, throw a nice handful of moss or something in there. this is their world now so you'll have to supply what they need.

they may try to crawl out, this is not unheard of.

Yeah I do have just about every type of moss in the main tank so plenty to spare. I also figured I add some of the indian almond leafs and some of the flame moss I have on mesh at the bottom.

I gave up with the mesh boxes. Not enough water flow and the sides get too gunky to see through.

Even if placed next to outflow or even placing an air stone under the box? I figured it get a bit messy but I also heard people saying they lost shrimp on their HOB box because lack of water flow.

Air bubbles for some reason don't penetrate teh mesh well, even less when the mesh gunks up.

Don't know about the outflow. Never tried it.

Why don't you just get a specimen container or some acrylic and make your own breeder box to go inside the tank, you have more option to do it this way, even the option to make a filter for it. Maybe be harder and more money but you get exactly what you want.

must....have.....more....moss n shrimp!!!!!!!!!!

I have a marina hang on the outside box. Loving it. As far as your mesh breeder box could you put an airstone in it. If you have a valve turn it down low so u dont boil the water too much

I did have the mesh box when I first started since I had fish and left shrimp in the mesh for 2 weeks till I found new homes for my fish. That's why I figured the flow was fine but I might have to give in and just get a HOB with a small pump.
