Shrimp and Silvertip?

Hey gang,

I am in the process of getting my planted tank to a "complete" stage. In the long run, I'd like to put shrimp into my tank. I have 6 silver-tip tetra and a couple otos. With a good amount of plant growth, would I be ok putting shrimp into the tank or will the tetra make a meal out of them?

Your fish will eat them : ( The otos are the only really for sure safe fish with shrimp. You may have a few survive with enough plant coverage, but it's unlikely

"Silvertip tetras are slightly more aggressive than other comparable smaller tetras, observed occasionally to nip other similarly sized tetras."

yeah I'm leaning towards bad idea to mix those with shrimp.

In general it's a bad idea to mix shrimps with any fish, with the only possible exception of otocinclus, or oto for short, since shrimps in their original habitat are naturual snacks for fishes

If you search for pictures of wild variants of neos and bee shrimps you will find that they all lack the kind of nice color their mutated relatives (like Taiwan Bees and PFRs) have. Their pale color is a natural camouflage that protects them against predators like fishes

I have silvertip tetras too. They are not tetras. They are little mini piranha's that interbred with demons to produce a spectacular looking fish that will terrorize everything else in it's tank.

Your shrimp will die.

Funny you say that both piranhas and tetras are in the same family.
