DIY Temp controller for under $30

Bought a STC-1000 off amazon months ago for like $20 with a few other things for the free shipping. Finally hooked it up, all i used was a $5 extension cord. Pic of it in action

It reads in Celsius but it's a set it and forget it kinda deal. I use it to power a clip fan and any time temp goes over 21 it kicks the fan on. You can also use it to control a heater. Pretty sweet option compared to my $100+ reefkeeper. Really like being able to glance at the tank and see an exact temp, fellow tiger keepers know how crucial that is.
Here it is on amazon for $18 with free shipping on $35 purchase.

Oh and just a tip, had me thinking i wired it wrong for a couple days. Make sure F3 is at 1, mine was at 3 and it would delay the fan turning on for 3 minutes.

You can get a project box from radioshack and put it in. Much safer, that's what I did.

Very cool. Does it have a temperature probe and then you just put the probe in the tank?

Neato, was going to build something like this when I stop being lazy.

May grab this for $30 bucks and reverse engineer it into something better (:

I made a sous vide setup with a cooler, a relay, some cup heaters, and one of those a couple years ago. Worked quite well until it let the magic smoke out one day.

Always curious.

Do you have any schematics or anything I could look at?

I was honestly considering making an aquaponics setup on top of my shrimp tank to snip spinach leaves or any veggie plant and use it as food lol.

Circle of life.

This controller has a probe that goes in the tank, and can control a heater and a cooler or fan. To wire it google STC - 1000 and home brew or something like that. Brewers use this to keep their beer at the right fermentation temp.

Yes the project box would clean the look up quite a bit, i've just been to lazy to get one yet. They are in fact used for home brewing and quite a few reefers use them.
Shrimpzoo if you do not find the schematic let me know and i can snap a pic. Nothing to complicated though.
