Advice on DOA

So I promised my sister that i would set her up a crayfish tank, and you guys on tpt suggested cajun dwarf crayfish, since they are more friendly and can live in a planted tank (which my sister wants to have)

So i ordered 2 pairs of them. The seller bagged the females and the males separately. One of the female died, likely more than a day ago, since after i opened the bag it smelled awful. The other female, not suprisingly is not doing well since she has been in that disgusting water all this time.

I contacted the seller and sent him picture of the crayfish dead in the unopened bag and a video of the reminding 3 including the female sitting here not moving even with me softly nudging her repeatedly.

The seller offered to refund me the females, which is nice of him, but my sister wants to breed them. What is she going to do with 2 males?

Do you think i can ask if the seller would replace the females? or should i just take it as a lost and buy some from someone else?

Can't hurt to ask for him to send you another pair of females instead of a refund. You may have to cover shipping again but thats only fair.

Unfortunately stuff like that happens, I wouldn't blame it solely on the seller.

Advice on DOA

Life happens. Keep the other female in clean water and she may recover.

Best of luck :/

Sometimes the USPS mishandles the packages in very unique ways. Change of temp in unheated and extreme heated trucks, packages being jostled, and other mishaps.

I just had a package that I sent to CA go to NH and then back across country to CA. Mistakes happen, and not all the time does it happen from the seller.

Clemson's2k provided a good answer. Most reputable sellers really try hard to make sure their customers get live stock.

yea, i don't blame the seller, cause the crayfish were meticulously packed. Just one of them happened to have died. i currently have them in my 3 gal qt tank, the female ran into the cray pot to hide, which is a good sign at least she moved! cause the first 3 hours, she wouldn't move even if i poked her =< at one point she was laying side ways on the sand attached to a moss ball i moved near her.

the seller already refunded me for both the females. i told him i'll keep an eye on the surviving female and if she dies, i'll order another 2 females from him.

wish me luck on keeping her alive! my sister comes home in a month, lets hope i have her surprise ready for her!

and thanks for the advice!

Oh, just so you know, it only takes a very SMALL amount of time for the water to smell horrendous. I've had shrimp overnighted that were in transit less than 12 hours and one died in route and the water was horrendous.
