Nerite snails going on adventures

My nerite snails like to wander outside of the tank. On top of the filter, in the filter, on the glass... And so on. I understand the need for adventure but how can I put a stop to their lifelong dream of traveling the world. The lid on my evolve 4 looks horrible to say the least. Does this behavior mean my water is not optimal?

I think some nerites like to do that no matter how good the water is. Some species I believe do that in nature.

i have 3 or 4 in a tank that has been established for 4+ years. lots of plants, lots of food and lots of room. i still find them on the lid from time to time. one of them tried to crawl up the filter intake.

i think it is just a natural behavior. Actually, all of my snails have been in weird places from time to time. I found a whole colony of pond snails inside the intake to my canister and crawling up the lid. if i pull them off and drop them back in the tank, they will end up somewhere else.

Re: Nerite snails going on adventures

Should I worry about them not returning to the water? Or will they eventually make their way back home? Or should I move them manually?

Mine never make it back on their own. I find them, and put them back. Always surprised how far they make it out of the tank lol.

I'm not into the image, but into the hobby...

For snails, nerites can move pretty darn fast when they want to

In my SW tank I always find them on the floor dried up behind the tank. just flick them back in. They aren't good with directions.
