About six years ago I left the hobby and I'm trying to get back into it, I've got my tank cycled and plants going but I can't seem to find a quality vender with decent prices. Back then I bought all my shrimp from fellow shrimp keepers but I'm not sure if that is still the best course of action. If y'all could recommend some big or small time vendors it would be appreciated.
TGOE Shrimp (have purchased from him)
BuyPetShrimp (haven't purchased but have been to his residence)
Billy Boi Aquatics
Plamski Shrimp farm (heard a lot of great things about them)
Bre The Breeder
Detroit Shrimp Aquatics
Blue Crown Aquatics (met owners)
LRB Aquatics
I'm sure there are some others. You can also look in the sales section of this forum.
I encourage you to check actual reviews before ordering from a couple of these places. Especially if they're importing shrimp in bulk, brag about keeping massive shrimp tanks or do things like offer multi-color "packs" of Neo shrimp. Those are generally sellers focused solely on a bottom line and don't put a lot of effort into making sure the shrimp you receive are in any way healthy.
Good advice in some of these responses, though. Particularly about buying from the For Sale section. Buying from other members will often allow you to see how they keep their shrimp, how long they've been in the hobby and review whether or not their shipping practices are good. Most will have tank journals with tons of photos and details that will allow you to see what they're up to. You'll also likely end up spending less money and get healthier shrimp.
Flip Aquatics is where I got my blues and carbon rili. Neither breeds true but thats kinda par for those varieties. They all came in good shape and packed well. I believe they import a bit of their stock but they do a quarantine hold before reshipping so it works.
Okay. Some of y'all can't quit promoting yourselves. Others can't quit promoting known bad actors in the hobby. So this thread has to be locked.
But use common sense before buying. Read reviews - not just those select to be visible on their websites. Don't buy from bulk importers who can't answer basic questions. Bigger is not better when it comes to aquatics operations. Check the For Sale section here because we have a feedback system & most people keep tank journals or at the very least have a post history.
