I got this colony in October of 2018... haven't had a big population boom. In fact, it was *several* months before they started breeding, and there wasn't much breeding to begin with... as in, the shrimp that did hatch and survive are already adults now. There may be some shrimplets that are older in the tank right now, but we're talking by days here! Plus at least three females berried.

Hoping the colony finally kicks off and see what weird and wacky offspring I get! The colony throws Rili and "Headless Horseman".... or another odd one.

The males were freaking out last night, swimming all over the place... quick count, looks like there's 5 berried girls! Glad to see that! Looks like a couple of girls might be ready to pop soon too?

I thought YKK were Caridina? Just curious b/c you mentioned throwing rili patterns. Either way, your experience gives me hope for my OEBTs. I got those ages ago and get a baby here and there, but they just aren't doing what shrimp are supposed to.

Yes, that's correct! They are Caridina! Believed to be derived from Tangerine Tigers.... somehow?

And yes... Rili pattern! And clear head pattern... ("headless horseman") not pretty... and sometimes clear body ("lemon heads").

What I received when I ordered them was all YKK... but they came from a colony that throws the different patterns. One of the colored YKK's actually lost color as it grew older... then they reproduced and.... I wasn't expecting that!

Have kept them with Neos before, too! Never got any odd colored shrimp.

For reference.... A "headless horseman" in the back with normal YKK's

"Headless Horseman" with a yellow face...

This one is from December... from the first batch of offspring if I recall right? I haven't seen one like this in a while so either it colored up differently or didn't survive to adult hood. This one is something akin to a rili pattern (clear body/head but yellow nose and tail)

I've also gotten some "rili type" patterns showing up in my opae ulas... Some of those came from the same breeder as the YKK's... however, I don't recall for sure if his colony threw rili's or not. Then again, the opae ulas aren't as well colored as they could be....

A couple weeks back, it was a shame to see one of the females with only a couple of eggs... obviously recently berried, not about to hatch

But, nothing to be *too* concerned about... as there's still a lot of babies! Still a lot of berried gals!

Males were swimming around a couple of nights ago so likely another berried female. One and a half years and they're finally really breeding. (haven't counted recently) I do hope it continues!

Finally got brave and took some new photos! Only... most of them didn't turn out well! Emptied tank out of plants and babies were swarming all over the tank! Great to see a ton of babies in the tank!

@Blue Ridge Reef - still hoping that things turn around for your OEBT's!

I've been seeing mostly "headless horsemen" for colorations... (some with completely clear heads, some with one or two yellow eye stalks and/or yellow nose/rostrums) and one or two completely clear shrimp. I'm starting to need to cull... haven't yet. Going through recent photos, it looks like some of the offspring may be rili pattern! And I hope they keep the color! I didn't notice the rili until one of the photos, so I had to go back and look for one!

Kind of funny though... because all I really wanted were pure yellow shrimp.

Wow, that's a LOT of clear (or clear in sections) shrimp! You going to leave those in the breeding colony? I'd be culling them like my love for yellow depended on it, but I get why you might want to keep them. Second tank time!

I could really care less for the headless horsemen but I do like the rili!

One of the main reasons for not culling yet is because the ones I'm not interested in are breeding adults! I'd rather increase numbers first before culling.... which also means I need to cull even more once the babies mature more! lol But.... it'll at least increase the colony in the meantime...

Surely you can never have too many shrimp, only too few tanks!

They look great! But please stop encouraging me to "need" another tank!!!!
