Hi all,

A few of my cherry shrimp have had this for 1+ months. I don't think it's spreading and am not sure if they came this way. Is it an infection? They've been in pH 7, KH 3, GH 5, nitrates around 20, sometimes higher. Just started changing parameters for Caridina a few days ago (no change in this coloration).

Thanks!

An expert just told me this is a normal variant. Thanks!

Far from an expert myself on cherry color variants, but that looks like pigmentation to me. Also doesn't line up with any disease I've ever seen so I feel more confident in that assessment. Surprised it's not bred for though, that's a neat looking shrimp.

Nothing good happens fast in an ecosystem.

I've had a few develop that pattern and lived long lives. It seems to be a variation of the "racing stripe".

Agreed.... normal. Fire red to painted fire red coloration. (not perfect)

If you have a tank currently set up for Neos, I would recommend doing a separate tank for Caridina since Caridina parameters are different and do best with an active substrate with 0 KH.

Thank you all! Really appreciate it. I added some Super Sera Pear to the tank which dropped the pH to 6.5ish and KH is around 2 now. Neos seem to be doing fine and are zipping around the tank. I got 10 shadow pandas which are small and hiding (there are fish in the tank). Hopefully they'll come out more as they mature.
