Do I want a Spixi, or something else?

So I think that I want to get a Spixi snail. I'm looking for advice on whether I do or not.

I have a RCS tank that is positively over run with tiny little snails, I think what get called mini-ramshorn. My understanding is that an assassin snail might not eat them because they're too small, and might go after my shrimp, so I don't think I want assassins. I have read that a Spixi will chow down on the mini ramshorns, would chow down on any eggs they lay, and wouldn't be a problem for my shrimp.

Tell me about the downsides (I've seen references to egg sacks, but don't really understand what people are talking about).

Tell me if there are better alternatives that I haven't thought of.
Thanks!

I've wanted to try these, but felt my water would be too soft. People report them eating planaria and other flatworms in addition to small snails. My understanding is the adults will even eat their own eggs and babies, but this is just from reading and talking to other hobbyists, I don't think I've ever even seen one in person. Curious to see what others have to say who have worked with the species.

Nothing good happens fast in an ecosystem.
