Molting and pre-filtering

Two days after adding a few neos, I've already seen a couple of shells. Is this stress molting or coincidental?

Is there any benefit to adding black prefilter sponge material around the intake of the filter below? It's already just inside but I don't know if the flow reduction from an outer shell would affect the filter worse than it benefits the shrimplets' ability to resist the intake flow.

It could be from stress. It could be natural. Shrimp frequently molt when barometric pressure changes, with water changes, around seasonable changes, et al. If shrimp start dying, you'll know something is wrong. Otherwise, it's normal behavior.

If the intake is large enough to suck in shrimplets, you'll want to cover it with something to prevent that from happening. Sponge, stockings, fine mesh, that sort of thing.

There's prefilter sponge material just on the other side of the inlets, so larb shrimp isn't a concern; I just don't know if the intake pressure is high enough that shrimplets could get stuck on the intake surface. If no one knows, I'll just have to observe closely and add a prefilter section if needed.
