You can use a standard DSLR, I'm using a Nikon D610 with a long extension tube and reversed mounted 28mm wide angle Nikkor lens.

This is a setup I used for my macro bug photography. Didn't think I could use it because I need a very strong light source.

Here's another video of a larvae hatching slowly, I guess he's not an early riser @ 2:17 mark.


This is a vid of the eggs expelled from the mother. They probably won't survive as they look too undeveloped.


Here's a larvae that I thought was dead while I was cleaning out the tank.
