This question goes out to all you shrimp keepers - Have you ever witnessed your shrimp mating? I ask because yesterday I "rescued" a female who I noticed has an injury(exoskeleton shows a flare up near the head) and I saw other shrimp swarming her and "attacking" her. I scooped her up since she seemed in great health, other than the perceived injury, and put her in a breeder net in the tank. This morning, she's berried! So I'm thinking, perhaps it was males swarming her to do the deed instead of them trying to eat her. When I "rescued" her, there were three male shrimp on her. The other females showed zero interest, which is another reason I thought perhaps this was mating behavior.

Shrimp have successfully bred in this tank previously, I've just never seen the females getting knocked up. Lol

What you described definitely sounds like shrimp breeding. Congratulations on witnessing the event!

Yeah, it’s pretty... rough.
I feel bad for the females when I see it but I guess that’s life.

I’ve heard of tanks where the male to female ratio is too high and the females get killed in the frenzy.

I've got three adult females that are reproducing, and 4-5 adult males. Lots of babies cropping up all over, so that ratio should improve here soon.

Thanks for the replies guys. She was turned loose back into the general population yesterday morning after I saw her berried, she's doing great. She's been a good producer for me, so I'm hoping for a good clutch!
