My 125 kills snails

Seriously. I have been putting snails from my 29 into the 125 to maybe eat some diatoms, but they keep dying - they last maybe a couple of days, then empty shells start showing up. Same water, same conditioner, ferts, food, same pretty much everything with one exception: The water line to the 125 is brand new copper pipe. Could this be leaching somehow? All the other plumbing in the house is copper as well - it that's the problem, I assume it will go away with time. Anyone else ever experience this?

Do you have any fish in the 125?

I have 20 cherry barbs, 10 zebra danios and seven albino cories in the tank. They all seem fine. Parameters test fine: 4 dkh, 3 gh, 7.6 ph (Co2 off) 6.6 (Co2 on), 0 nitrites, 0 ammonia, nitrates around 30. I may take a little water up to my LFS and have them test for copper tomorrow.

Have you used copper based meds in this tank? Was this tank 2nd hand or brand new aquarium?

Due to photobuckets new bs cost for use of images on forums I have deleted all photobucket accounts. I apologize if you enjoyed or found my photos helpful.

I'd guess the barbs are eating them, based on what you've described, and if you can be positive no copper meds were used in the tank.

Do you feed both tanks similarly, and maintain them similarly?

Unless your source water is REALLY low in PH, I wouldn't count on the copper pipes being an issue. Copper's in almost every home in the country.

That would also explain the barbs' almost complete lack of interest in the pellets eveyone else eats...
