external rector

can you use one with DIY co2 or not? it has a check valve too... I'm tryign to get as little equipment in my tank as possible

Sure you can use one. That is exactly what I am doing, but right now I am having one problem and that is that I am getting a lot of bubbles coming out into the tank. They're obiously not dissolving. Don't take my experience as a hint not to do it because there are people out there who have been doing it for years with no problems. Search the forum or web for a good design on an external reactor. If I had any money left over after the aquarium, I would by a camera and take some pictures of mine, but....

As long as you use a well attached check valve, and the CO2 bottle is very airtight, you should have no problems.

It does work. I'm running an in line reactor with a DIY setup right now (Hagen CO2 bottle still), with a check valve. Does even better than the original setup. I'm getting 100% dissolution, which the original system was close at, but never got to.
