Hey Gomer!

I'm from Philly. There is very little of note in the Philadelphia area as far as fish/plant stores go. Now, if you happen to make it to Lancaster (about 1 away) there is "That Fish Place." Plant selection is better than most local shops but still not great. Still a cool place to visit and a nice drive if your interested in Amish country.

Have fun.

Longwood Gardens, not to be missed.

When I go to Delaware or Philly I always make a trip to Longwood Gardens, it is fabulous! Amazing color gardens, water gardens, woodland walks, rock gardens, water features and fountains, the conservatory is always outstanding.

Not much in Philly but get to That Fish Place in Lancaster. Back when I lived there (4 years ago) they had 1/2 off all fish on weekends ... don't know if they still do. Get there early and take a number.

Gomer, there is supposed to be a nice LFS up in the northeast, on Roosevelt Blvd., but I can't think of the name of it right now.
Ask the same question on the All Wet Thumb forum. Some of the regulars there got to the one I'm referring to.

You may be thinking of The Hidden Reef djlen. Not a bad shop... not much in the way of plants but it's worth going to just to see their Moray Eel tank . My favorite shops are all in Jersey however... not a huge trip since South Jersey is basically Philly's suburbs.

My 'home' LFS is The Aquarium Center in Clementon. I feel lucky to have such a nice store so close to home.
And yes, The Hidden Reef is the one I was talking about.
Thanks Chupacabras.

Anytime djlen .

Thanks Momotaro... seems that Jersey is a hotbed of aquarium activity.

I frequent four shops; The Hidden Reef (for low hardware prices), Aquarium Center (to buy fish and plants), Aquarium Discount (for hard to find items and tanks) and Aquarium Authority (to sell fish)... each have their charms but Aquarium Center is my favorite.

With so many great shops in the Garden State (all mine are in a 15 mile radius) it always amazes me that there isn't better representation from the turnpike!

djlen, you just can't beat the Center for livestock... not to mention you'll never see as many tattoo's and/or piercings anywhere outside a biker bar . Well stocked place with a great staff that take ownership of their areas, what's not to love?

Chupa, would you be good enough to post the stores and their local in the NJ section of the LFS portion of the board. A brief review would be awesome as well!!

Yes, it's a bit 'colorful' in that place. The plant lady is especially decked out, but she's very nice. She's disappointed when I walk in without a couple of bags of plants though.
Occasionally I take a hike down to The Aquarium Center, near Baltimore as well. Really nice selection of practically everything, but a bit more pricey than the one up here. No connection between the two, BTW, despite the name.
