Where to find Hemianthus callitrichoides?

Hemianthus callitrichoides (Cuba). Did a bunch of internet searches and can't find any place that sells it.

I've searched high & low for it for the past month or so ... looks like it's unavailable. Going with Glosso instead.

No Gomer, thanks to everyone for their posts! At least this thread isn't just swept under the rug with no replies. I'll look forward to hearing when you can make it avaliable.

This and this is a better picture of Hemianthus callitrichoides (below the ricca). The pictures are from Oliver Knott's website, the AGA 2003 aquascaping contest winner. Personally I think it looks better than glosso. The texture is much more fine and detailed, and it carpets very well. Tropica suggests it's easy to grow. Too bad it's hard to find.

I foresee in a few months time it will start to become more available. I know there are a few people out there, myself included, that are currently growing it out just like Gomer. For anyone that doesn't know...it grows very SLOWLY unlike glosso. Also, you can contact Albany Aquarium in SF and try and talk them into shipping you some, I believe they get it in.

Hemianthus callitrichoides doesn't take well to shipping, especially in the summer heat. Anything more than 4 days in the heat and you'll probably receive a package of mush. It's easily available here, and I have tried sending many batches over, with success mostly to cooler states.

Albany aquarium is helping it spread in CA. A lot of SFBAAPS members are growing it out. Seems like a really neat plant so far. I've had it growing in a 20 gallon for 2 weeks and its taken over a corner of the tank. The batch I bought was $8.

I've wanted some of this plant for a few months now. My LFS expert first told me about it when I described a type of look that I was interested in. He said it was very difficult to obtain, and it would be expensive once found.

It surprises me that this plant isn't more available. Let us know if any of you are successful in propagating or finding someone that readily distributes this plant.

So...how much does hemianthus callitrichoides sell for on aquabid and how often is it available?

I'd like to try it out if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Albany does get it in occasionally. I saw a small buch of it in there this last weekend, but it was in their display tank and wasn't for sale. It's a fraction the size of glosso and would look awesome as a foreground.

I'm just waiting for when they get more in, or when some of you guys are able to get a decent amount of them going and available for shipping.

Eric
