just have one question

Hi im not new to the hobby but ive been needing help for a tank set up. Right now I'm saving to buy plants for a 50 gallon tank that I have cycling . I want it to be heavily planted with 10 neon tetra and 10 black neon tetra, some corycats and 5 or 6 siamese algae eaters . My question is what would best go with these fish a Bolivian ram or a gourami ? I have kept a Bolivian ram in the past and he was amazing. But I have never kept gouramis and they kinda catch my attention. So which would make a better addition to the tank ? thanks.

Gouramis are on the margin of community fish list so Bolivian ram should be the choice.

If you have a choice, you have a problem, till you elect your choice. No choice, no problem, only consequences, learn to live with them.

I've never met a Gouramis that didn't have a chip on it's shoulder. Ok, they don't have "shoulders" but you get the point.

I have a dwarf gourami and I have no issues with him and other fish, I keep otos, pristella tetras and neon tetras. Even when the tank was pretty much empty I had no problems with him. I had one incident with my kribensis when I first got it, but the kribensis put him back in his place. Go for a gourami.

I'd be worried about the SAE more than anything. Rams are pretty peaceful towards other fish. If you end up with two males, one will likely die. I've never kept gouramis because of the disease they carry and the non-dwarf species get too large and aggressive.

I've always kept gouramis in my community tank. They can be aggressive and bully other fish. To tame their dominating nature I keep 2 or 3 of the same size. I've found mixing gold and blues together works pretty well. They will battle among themselves for top dog status and leave the other fish alone.
morfeeis and morfeeis like this.
