should I just start this one over?

I have a 10g that is supposed to be my QT for newcomers, but one day as I was thinning out the plants in my 33g I got the bright idea to 'just see what will happen' in moderate light (2x 9watts), no CO2 or I planted some cuttings into the 10g. That was about 3 months ago, and I've now got a magnificent crop of beard and hair algea growing everywhere on everything. I was thinking that I could just nuke the tank, replace the substrate and go back to plastic plants, but......I really like live plants now, and I don't know if I have the stomach for plastic anymore. So, here's the question...can I get rid of the algea if I bump up the lighting and get some CO2 and ferts in there, or will I have to nuke the tank anyway? (side note: since my 33 is stocked and no one's coming or going, the 10 is free to be a world unto it's self...I have a 5g for emergencies) Thanks for your opinions.

Try it, nitrate and CO2 first.

You may want to keep it going as an isolation tank, not for sick fish but for fish that seem healthy and need to be isolated for awhile. Sort of a rehab tank for fish leaving hospitalization, needing the security of a planted tank but not ready for the big tank, just in case.
