Fish food

Got a question about fish food. How often should I feed frozen compiled to flakes?

Both frozen and flake foods do lose some value when processed. Much as human food does? So for me, the question becomes more a matter of which works better for me. Some of the things I look at are cost, convenience and how the fish accept each. Currently I find all my fish accept flakes very well and I am feeding no frozen as it tends to bother me more to thaw the food. If I don't thaw it, the first big gulp takes it all!
I suggest looking more at what each type and size fish may need/want at the time. If I had small highly regarded fish that I wanted to fatten/grow out faster, some frozen might be on the menu.

I'm a Thawer and a Rinser.

No, it's not the most fun part of the hobby but neither is feeding the dog or the cat. And you should hear the cat yowl until he gets fed, lol! And it takes long enough that I feed frozen foods heaviest at night.

I thaw and rinse generous portions in the evening, keeping some in small covered dishes in the fridge. That usually leaves enough to feed the few special cases with thawed frozen the next morning at least. I never keep thawed frozen food more than 24 hrs in the fridge.

So for me, it's daily in the evening and some cases will get frozen foods twice a day.

Flakes are obviously easier and I usually feed it in the AM when time is tighter.

PS. I blend my own flakes food from Kensfish. They have a huge assortment that I can customize to my fish's needs based on species and age.

Hello jb...

I feed my fish flakes, freeze dried, frozen foods, pellets and wafers daily. They need a variety like we do. I feed a healthy amount so the adults are well nourished and breed regularly. The fry that are born all get enough to eat so they grow fast and by keeping the adults well fed, I don't have to worry about the adults bothering the fry. Probably why I have 7 large tanks all full of fish. The large, weekly water changes don't hurt either.
