New Lowtech Tank Help

I'm setting up a new low-tech tank. Any comments or suggestions on my components?

I have two questions on the top of my head:
1) Will the Scarlet Badis and Apistogramma borellii co-exist peacefully? Any thoughts on this?
2) Are my plant selections ideal for low to medium light?

Thanks!

Tank: 29g (30 x 12 x 18 inch)
Filters: Eheim 2215
Lights: Finnex Planted+ 24/7
Heater: EHEIM Jager Aquarium Thermostat Heater 150W
Substrate: CaribSea Eco-Complete 60 lbs
Fert: 1x each week of AquariumFertilizer's MacroMicro Mix
CO2: None

Selected species:
2 x Apistogramma borellii (Apistogramma borellii)
4 x Scarlet Badis (Dario Dario)
12 x Neon Tetra (Paracheirodon innesi)
8 x Oto (Otocinclus vittatus)
6 x Amano Shrimp (Cardina multidentata)
6 x Malaysian Trumpet Snail (Melanoides tuberculata)

Name (Placement)
Balansae Crypt (Background)
Bacopa (Background/Mid)
Dwarf Sagittaria (Background/Mid)
Java Fern (Mid)
Nana (Mid/Fore)
Nana Petite (Fore)
Dwarf Hairgrass (Fore)

AqAdvisor Recommendations/Warnings/Suggestions/Notes:

Warning: When Apistogramma borellii starts to breed, they may become too aggressive to co-exist with Scarlet Badis.

Recommended temperature range: 75.2 - 80.6 F. [Display in Celsius]
Recommended pH range: 7 - 7.
Recommended hardness range: 10 - 15 dH.

You have plenty of aquarium filtration capacity.

Your aquarium filtration capacity for above selected species is 212%.
Recommended water change schedule: 31% per week.
Your aquarium stocking level is 101%.

Like AquaAdvisor, I have concerns about keeping 2 territorial species on that small floor area.
Apistos OR Badis + some upper level schooling fish would be good. If Neons like the same temperature, then go for it. Otos and snails are fine. Shrimp might be eaten, though Amanos are large enough with these fish.

I think your plant selections would be OK at the upper end of low tech. Good light, perhaps liquid CO2 (Excel or similar)

I do not like a fertilizer that includes all the elements in a mix. Better to get each element separately (N, P, K, and a combination of micros) and dose according to the needs of the tank.

Thanks for the comment Diana. I think I'll remove the Dario Dario and get an extra female Borelli (total of M/F/F). I might include additional mid-top water dwellers.

Plant selection looks solid. However I would recommend incorporating root tabs every few months or so. That'll really help those rooted plants you have.

Thanks Falcooo. I'll get some root tabs.

Question: I'm now thinking of removing the Otos and replacing them with 12 Threadfin Rainbows . Any issues with the change? Does 2 schooling species work in a 29g tank (Featherfins Rainbows and Neon Tetras)? According to AqAdvisor, I'll still be good at 102% capacity.

I'd keep the oto's, I've grown really fond of mine, and add more neons. One big school looks cooler than two small one IMO.

Good points! So my options now are:

1. Keep the Otos and add more Neons
2. Remove the Otos and add the Threadfind Rainbows

Choices, choices...

Remove the Neons and go with Threadfins. Keep Otos.
