Post What is this plant ??

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum but have been a long time reader of this forum and many other planted tank forums.

I would say I am in between beginner and moderate hobbyist.
I have a 29 Gallon heavily planted (sand) with Pressureized CO2 canister filter and power head.

I have a 55 Gallon Cichlid tank.
I have a 10 Gallon shrimp tank.

I am looking into a 125 Gallon planted tank for my next.

I need help identifying this species, I was given it for free when I ordered from planted aquarium central and I have NO idea what is, best guess is some kind of Rotala.

Take a shot of it submerged. It will be easier to tell once it's not all matted together.

I completely understand however, I floated it in my aquarium last night and the fish started to act completely strange this morning, Danio's were tumbling around and the Angel's were vibrating their bottom long fins.

I was worried so I took it out, don't want to place it in ANY of my tanks at the moment, that is why I dipped it to spread it out a bit and also took a close up shot of the leaves to better identify.

Bump: I guess I took some last night didn't realize it.

I'm far from the ID expert on this forum. I swear it almost looks like two different plants put together. Did it appear to be all the same specie when it was submerged?

I see the bump. Still hard to tell. Does it look like this when separated?

No, not at all. These have narrow leaves coming off them. So they seem to have a stalk and them bushy narrow leaves. This is incredibly strange, but they came from a reputable dealer so I am leaning towards safe and maybe we just aren't good at identifying lol?

I am not really sure whether I want ot use the Star Grass. I looked it up and there are different uses I guess? I saw some people grow it tall like a Rotala but other's say you can Carpet the plant, not really sure HOW it would carpet since it grows fast and grow's tall? I don't understand how it would carpet it self.

You think it's really Star Grass though huh?

I agree, not sure how it would carpet? Maybe with regular pruning?
I'm no expert, but my guess is star grass.

Can anyone confirm or deny that it is star grass? Would love to know for sure before I start making decisions on my tank.

From the pictures it's hard to tell what it is. Star grass seems to be a very plausible ID. To me it looks like you have a couple plants mixed up such as corkscrew val and narrow leaf hygro.

I suggest if you like the way it looks give it a shot. Worst thing that could happen is the plant melts away. No harm done in trying. Give it a shot and update us on how it turned out.

Think I should pull it a part or just plant it the way it is? I would like to be able to identify it, hate having plants I don't know the identity of.
