Driftwood with decor glued to it...question

Yesterday I saw the most perfect old, dried piece of GORGEOUS driftwood for $50. If I could create a piece for my future 125 it would look just like this.

Unfortunately it had a few tacky pieces of decor (fishing lures, that type of stuff) glued to it. I don't know how they were glued.

I really don't want to waste $50 on something I can't use, so I'm wondering what you experts think? Would I be taking too much of a chance what with the glue (I'd try to remove it...hopefully the decor was just hot-glued) and the possibility that the wood had been "cleaned" with something that may later leach out into the tank water?
