Coral to Raise pH??

Will coral in the canister filters raise the pH?

If so, will using coral have any ill-effects on the stock, plants?

Any hints / tricks?

Unless you are keeping or breeding certain cichlids and very few other fish, pH isn't a concern. Fish adapt to whatever pH the water has. KH can be a problem for a few fish, and high KH almost always goes with high pH, but pH alone just isn't that significant.

I will just point out that the exception to this is that no fish will enjoy highly fluctuating/crashing/etc ph. While an ideal pH is great to shoot for, a STABLE ph is as/more important.

I use some argonite from CaribSea to help add buffering to my tanks since they are typically in the 1-3dKh range without it. I put about a half cup or so in a small mesh bag and put it into my canister or HOB filter basket. It needs to be rinsed about once a month depending on the tank occupants.

It doesn't bother plants or fish. Again, I use it for Kh buffering, not for pH changes.
