whats this on my driftwood?

does anybody have any idea as to what this fuzzy stuff is on the wood...is it normal? i get my plants on friday, and saturday. im geting things shiped to me from aqua botanic (thanks for that link john) and the other plants are comeing in the weekend following from minisota. , i am planing on a huge water change before i plant.

Not sure if that is Mopani or not, but I had some of that gunk on a piece of Mopani I had in an older tank, and I think it is some kind of fungus. I took out the wood, soaked it in some vinegar and then boiled it, and that got rid of it. There's maybe an easier method, but that worked for me.

Yes it's normal. It will disappear after a while.

FMS i hope you're right !?!? i got same fungus on my manzanita woods ..a month already haven't gone any where yet .. its taking over my tank.

people say boil driftwood and i comepletely agree. however, how can you boil a piece of wood that is cant even fit in to a trash can? lol as long as its normal. i hope it doesnt affect the plants when i get them...this weekend...... im goign to do a 65% water change tonight to help clear things up in so i can get my plants

I soaked my Mopani in scalding water for days. It still formed this fungus. After a week I used my hand to brush some of it off and it got sucked up by the filter. Doesn't hurt anything.

I have put large pieces of wood too big to boil in a laundry washing machine, or a dishwasher, no soap or detergent, just hot water.

i had the same thing, my oto's ate some of it.. the rest disappeared after about a week or so.
