Help ID tiny bug in my ADA Amazonia dry start setup?

Hey guys, there are many small brown grasshopper looking insects in my dry start tank with emmersed HC. They don't really look like aphids or gnats and can't fly, but can jump.

It seems that the bug might have come from the Aquasoil as a bunch of them poured out when I went to add some more to the tank.

Heres a picture.

They're really small. Thats my thumbnail for scale.

Thanks!

Some sort of cricket or grasshopper. Looks more like a grasshopper to me. No idea on the type.

Was there a hole in the bag?

Given where the substrate originates, it wouldn't be good to introduce new species to a different country.

Introduce some predators into that tank while you're doing the dry start. They should take care of the grasshoppers by the time the tank is ready to go.

I recommend frogs since they don't usually eat plants.

If you don't kill the baby hoppers, they'll probably devour all the plants you're trying to grow out.

Yeah I figured there were some grasshopper eggs in the soil package which hatched when I opened it?

I will try the frogs, I hope you are being serious about it.

Thanks!

And then you'll need to introduce herons to remove the frogs.

Not sure if that poster was serious...

Alternatively, you can either remove them with a fish net or temporarily flood the tank.

As Tony said, I would just flood the tank and scoop them out and the drain the water.
