Starting a planted tank - already have fish

Hello.

I already have a 29 gal. tank established with a variety of fish (3 guorami's, 1 glass catfish, 1 zebra danio and 2 ghost shrimp). Is it possible to add plants to this tank, or do you have to start from scratch?

There is no reason that you could not just add your plants.

my tank was already established and had fish. I just put them in a bucket while I redid it for planting. Then put them back into the tank when done.

I didn't want to run the chance of throwing my tank into a new cycle, so I just added the substrate on top of the gravel one baggie lowered to the bottom at a time. I haven't had a problem growing plants like this. You should get more danios, though. They like to hang out together.

I was actually thinking of doing that.

I had more danios, this one is the lone survivor. He actually has only one eye at this point courtesy of the glass catfish.

I've seen many plants grow and thrive with just basic gravel. You can always add some sand, that is how my substrate is set up. What kind of plants do you plan on adding, lighting?

Don't know, very new to the idea of planting. To start I was thinking of just some ground cover.
