what is the proper way to prune an amazon sword?

the title says it all! should i just cut the leaves back or cut the leaves at the bottom - any help appreciated, thanks in advance - john

I cut the leaves at the substrate level.

I usually trim my amazon swords by "plucking" the entire leaf/stem off of the bottom with my fingers. If you look at the end of the stem, after you have pulled it, you will see it gets round and flat. I started doing it this way after i got sick of seeing little stubs at the bottom of my plants, and I haven't had any negative effects doing it this way.
