How many hours of lighting?

I have a 50 gallon tank with a few large Amazon Swords. I have compact flourescent lighting with two 6500k bulbs. I've been keeping the lights on for about 14 hours per day. Is that too long? The leaves don't seem to last long - they get black spots and holes in them pretty quickly and I'm wondering if it might be too much light? I'm adding CO2 to the tank using a yeast container and powerhead setup. Any ideas? Thanks!

How many watts do you have over that tank? Are you dosing ferts?

Stay around 6-8 hours a day, 14 hours a day is too much imo.

i would agree with Natty, 14 hours is to much
But i also think 6 - 8 is way to little

Most run in the range of 10 - 12 hours

I run 12 hours total of lighting , 07:00a - 12:00, then off from 12:00 - 16:00, then back on from 16:00 - 23:00.
@ 1.3 WPG and dose with Excel daily

Algae growth is minimal and the plants do not seem to even notice.

always keep in mind YMMV

Got a 10g with 2 15w spiral CF bulbs. I run typically 8 hours, unless I'm feeling like playing with things and need the light on.

It all depends on how much lighting and what kind. Also the tank size. WPG rule doesn't really work on smaller tanks. The different types of lights can have different outputs of light even if it has the same amount of wattage.

So please more information.

I'm not a doctor in real life but I play one on this forum
