I just saw a really skinny worm like think swimming on the top of the tank. Must have been close to a 1/2 inch long, swam fast and snake like. What the hell?

alien worm like thing.

Coralbandit yes, it was like that. fast swimmer, I had not even had my coffee yet!

I do regular water changes and water parameters are fine. [no ammonia, nitrates, nitrates on test strips] Last water change was 2 days ago. Heavily planted with java fern, moss, crypts, amazon swords with eco complete substrate. So water changes do not include much gravel vaccuming.

I may feed heavier than I should, but then I only feed every other day. 29G tank with 6 cory cats, one small pleco and three neons... so I really don't feed that much.

Can I just vac a little deeper and forget I saw this thing?

Color: not red though. could not call it white, more grey/beige. swimming into the current of the HOB filter, so also a strong and not sluggish swimmer.

I am an RN, rarely grossed out...but on the edge right now.

Fish food and somebody will eat it as soon as they can catch it. It should be hiding but nature has a way to deal. Seen some things that live in your own body? That's why I don't suck on hoses to syphon!!!!

I have a squeeze bulb but if one of those is not on hand, just fill the tube with water, either out of the tank or at a sink. Clamp fingers over the ends to move it to get one end in the tank and the other end lower. When you take the fingers off, the water runs out the lower end and pulls more in behind it.
Southeast Asia is famous for having lots of funny little critters that live in the human body. It's also true that lots of live plants (and what in them) come from that area.

Some info that I trust as it comes from the CDC is here:
