Selling Aquarium Plants.......Questions!

Hey Guys.
I have an emersed plant set up and when summer comes, I plan on selling the plants. Growing is not really a problem, but I just have a couple questions.
First, would local fish stores around me accept my plants even when they have their own suppliers? Second, on average, how much can one make while selling plants on forums and/or online? Third, how many plants can I expect to sell? Does it take a while to get publicity or is it just publish a thread and sell fast kind of thing? Fourth, are there any legal restrictions that come with selling plants licences, fees, etc.

Never had a problem selling to an independently owned store. Never tried selling to a chain store. Expect to get maybe one-third to one-half of retail.

Depends on the plants, depends on the store, depends on the area you live in, depends on how consistently you have desirable plants available, depends on how many desirable plants you have available, depends on what others are selling the same plants for, depends on on how insulted you get by the LFS offer, depends on...........I'll think of more. But no, the box stores won't buy your plants.

All the above but then a small word? Do not expect to make enough profit to really change the lifestyle! It's a hobby and if you are able to cover even a good part of the cost, you'll be lucky.

It sounds like you want to make a living at selling plants. That means you want to start a nursery. I suggest you look into creating a business plan for an aquatic nursery. That includes the license, shipping restrictions, market analysis, cost of production, profit margins...blah blah blah.

You want to sell enough to pay for your hobby? Simply post them in the for sale section. Other than that, you need to do a lot of research.

If you do sell the biggest profit margin will be algae and snail free plants!
