Macros are nitrogen, potassium and phosphate
Micros are iron, other metals, etc. (things you need very little of)
(you want to avoid mixing iron and phosphate when dosing since they will react, this is why they are separated)

DSM is dry start method...basically starting your growth without water so the plants can grow roots and not float. It's used a lot with mosses, foreground plants, etc.

Plants require fertilizer/nutrients (along with light and CO2) to grow. So yes, you need some way to get them those nutrients. You can dry dose (cheapest), use off the shelf liquids (you're paying for water), make your own, etc.

There are some stickies in the fertilizer and water parameter forums. You will need to make a post with your tank size, plants, lights, CO2 or excel, etc. for other people to help you out.

This forum could use a sticky explaining all the many abbreviations we use here. Any volunteers?

I'll start with a few. If there's interest from others we can keep adding to the list:

MTS = Malaysian trumpet snail
pwc = partial water change
bb = beneficial bacteria
NH3 = ammonia
NO2- = nitrite
NO3- = nitrate
LFS = local fish store (not a big box store)
CPD = celestial pearl danio/ Danio margaritatus

I think there already is a sticky or at least a thread on the abbreviations.

MTS Multiple Tank Syndrome - A mythical affliction that they say can occur (like that's a bad thing). There however is no such thing. NET however is a real problem and can lead to anxiety and even death.
