Hello!

This is my first time posting here so I hope I can get some help. I recently set up a nano planted tank (around 3 gallons) and I recently found two types of bugs in the tank.

The first type are nematodes, but the other I cannot figure out.

The bugs are tiny, about the size of a pen tip and they are white. I see them usually swimming in the filter area on my tank. They also swim in a weird way. It is almost as the jump through the water. Kind of a jerky swimming motion. They aren't on the surface of the water. The swim below the surface and I just can't figure out what they are. They also cover a decent amount of space for their size with each "jump" that they make.

Thanks for the help!

By the way they are swimming they sound like a Copepod.... https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=754689

Hi,

Sounds like Daphnia, a crustacean, sometimes called water fleas, totally harmless and even tasty treat for some critters.

Hi,

The jerky movement and if they are ďkidneyĒ shaped, they are Daphnia.

Your description sounds almost like Daphnia hyaline, an open water, high oxygen species.

Respectfully,

If your Guru tells you otherwise and you are true believer that is okay I will not argue the point.

I pretty much limit what I say to things that anyone can easily verify from recognized references or by direct observation. If it is my opinion I say so.
