As much as I hate the bowing in the Tetra 29G's (I know, I've said it a gazillion times, lol!) I think I'll be spending a bunch to replace some used 29G's that are just in bad shape. Buying these new and knowing their "issues", I'll have the acrylic strips and crazy glue ready to go before I fill them. Then I'll tear down those old 29G's and re-purpose the glass. Gonna be a busy winter.

I feel like buying a 40g to harvest glass for home made (smaller) tanks (cheaper on the sale then getting pre-cut around here x.x).

Due to photobuckets new bs cost for use of images on forums I have deleted all photobucket accounts. I apologize if you enjoyed or found my photos helpful.

Are we sure the Tetra tanks aren't tempered?

If you post in your local forum or club's website looking for leakers, you may find something, but you're right it would be cheaper.

Probably going to go for two 10 gallons and either a 20 or a 29. Love this sale!

Someone beat you to it and already posted for the upcoming event. Perhaps the Mods can merge the two.

From Tetra:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. The 10, 20, and 29 gallon tanks are not tempered. The 55 gallon tank is tempered on all panels.

Thanks,

I've got a follow up email asking about the 40B. I too want to harvest glass but for tops.

I bought 2 tetras last year to break down and use as scrap to make 8 sets of weirs for my 8 40g breeders. It didn't turn out so well as the glass cutter I was using at the time, made crappy cuts. I got too many not so clean cuts. I ended up just buying the strips from a local glass shop for the tanks. Cost me $160 for (8) 4"x35.5 and (8)2.75x35.5. So harvesting can save a lot of money if you can cut it correctly. Tetra tanks are a pity taking apart thought. The clearance between the glass is fairly tight so not much silicone in between. Razor blades and leather gloves is the best solution for me. Guitar string and utility knifes didn't fair well. More than likely I will purchase more tetra's again to make baffles in my 4 sumps. I have a much better cutter now and I have had quite a bit of practice with much success with this new cutter I got off Amazon.

Pretty sure my boyfriend just told me no more fish tanks, but what's one more going to hurt?

I would have loved to get a 40 breeder tank for 40 bucks again. But I'll pass on the Tetra brand tanks though. I'm happy with the deal I found at my LFS where they had a bunch of Marineland 40b tanks for 74.99 until they're all gone.

Hopefully I'll score at Petco though with one of their branded metal stands for 12 bucks like last time.
