EI dosing/ water change routine

When doing an EI dosing on a small tank you reset it by doing a large WC on week end, do you do this also with larger tanks? (125gal-135gal )

i have a 135gal high tech planted tank,Im thinkng just doing a large WC once every two weeks to reset the nutrients, would that be okay?

EI is based on a large water change reset... A while back I was asking about doing WC's by watching nitrate levels, and Tom Barr had some very interesting insights deep into the thread:

Stay with once a week. Get a python if you don't have one.

You can use any water change routine you like. I do water changes daily to once a week normally. I use a couple of python hoses to drain the tank water into the garden so it isn't wasted. If my 14 year old pythons ever break down I will replace with a drinking water safe hose but they are still going strong.

Use this calculator to estimate what build ups are happening in your tank over time with various intervals of water changes and fertilizing levels. Nifty chart is on the second page, button is at bottom right. http://calc.petalphile.com/

Personally, I mix a small bucket of water with enough prime to treat all the water I'm changing. I pour a bit in before I start filling the tank, and slowly add the rest as I'm filling the tank.

Part of the way I do this is because I need to add GH booster, and I pre-dissolve it in the bucket, then add the prime. If I didn't have to mess with the GH booster, I'd just add the prime directly as I filled the tank.

Yes, this does mean some active chlorine ends up in the tank, but it gets neutralized pretty fast by the prime.

I use an eye dropper and squirt a little in every few minutes right into the flow from the hose.
