1) Fill microwaveable cup with water.
2) Microwave for 1 minute, 30 seconds. Add/subtract time depending on the strength of your actual microwave.
3) Dip the tubing into the water to soften.
4) Slide onto the diffuser.

Use cheap flexible silicone tube from check valve to diffuser.

While silicone is easier, it does leak like a sieve...

That is something you read somewhere, and believed.
Realistically speaking the amount of C02 you will lose
in an 12" piece of tubing in a pressurized C02 rig is
drastically insignificant, wouldn't you agree.

I would agree, but I had a setup using silicone tubing (5lb tank, rex reg). I used the setup for two fills with the silicone. I was only getting about 3 months of use from it. I checked for leaks countless times. Also, if I left co2 off for a few days the diffuser would fill with water, despite a check valve 10 inches away.

I replaced only the tubing, and never even bothered to check for leaks. It lasted 7 months, and is ~7 months every time. I checked every possible leak before, and now I can turn off my co2 for a week and that same diffuser does not fill up with water, with an even longer distance to the exact same check valve.

I don't believe in spewing something I read just for that sake.

Maybe I just imagined the problem, but I think I methodically worked out any problems

I used a lighter on my tube to heat it up some and slip mine right on.

Finally got my CO2 hose on it
I had better luck when I heated it carefully with a lighter and then wet the glass diffuser.
I would have never thought it would be this much trouble
