diy root taps

I was wanting to make some diy root tabs for my amazon sword tail and my two crypts. The crypts didn't like the ride home from the pet store four days ago and they both are crypt melting and the amazon sword leaves are starting to turn yellowish. My substrate is eco-complete and I do have pressurized co2. While I was waiting for the dry ferts to show up in the mail I have been using seachem flourish comp.

Now that the dry ferts showed up last night I will be using them from now on. Well anyway I can only find the new formula of osmocote plus here in town. I know they changed the formula and alot of people are saying use dynamite select(which I can't find in town) for an alternative to osmocote plus old formula.

Will the new formula work fine for root taps or should I just order dynamite select from amazon? I would like to stay local in town because I don't like waiting for the mail man. lol Now I can get API root tabs at petco but I read stay away from those because they have too much phos and will promote algae growth.

Doing some more searching today and I found this posting on Aquarium advice and I think I am going to try what Mebbid does for root tabs.
