I don't know what's happening
I have a 120 gallon heavily planted aquarium I do not use co2 but excel stocked with loaches rainbows and redline sharks it's been up and running for over 2 years I do 2 water changes a week Wednesday night and Sunday morning about a 3 months ago one of my canister filters died but I still have a sheik 2217 running which is more then adequate and a month and a half ago I woke up to find 9 of my rainbows dead the morning after my Wednesday night water change I thought maybe I had double dosed my excel and lack of oxygen killed them I immediately did a water change and threw in a bubbler I stopped Excel and after a few weeks used it sparsley because some hair algae started I also use prime. Last night I did a water change and this morning I woke to my last large rainbow dead and another small one dead I did a water change right away didn't add anything I did however forget to pull my eheim bar back up after the water change so water circulation on top was not there I also put a bubble line in when I came home 2 of my redline sharks were also dead. I checked my nitrate level and its up to.25 I did another water change. I have no idea why now these problems have started is it the oxygen level with just the one pump I have heard that the plants do something to oxygen levels at night. Am I getting ammonia spikes because the balance is upset from the one pump not running I was thinking of purchasing another pump.
