Question Need a little help with a ?

Its probably stupid but here goes . I plan on setting up a ten gallon tank -28 watt cf light-ehiem classic filter-black sand or flourite substrate - plants will be mosses, anbius, java fern, mabye a few low light stems. My ? is about the co2 . I will have to use diy for now and I was wondering how to tell how much co2 is in the tank and how to prevent getting too much co2 and also with the plants will the sand do or should I get flourite ?

There are multiple ways to gauge your co2 ppm:
1) drop checker
2) ph vs kh (purely estimative)
3) the fish gasp test (if they aint gaspin' you ain't overdosin')

The plants will do ok in sand, but sand is inert, where as fluorite contains nutrients needed by the plants. There are treatments that you can add to sand to add the nutrients needed, though.

It'll be very hard to overdose a 10 gallon with just DIY CO2, granted you don't go ahead and use 4x3L bottles.

1x or 2x 3L bottles will work fine.

Your plants will do fine in either substrate.

edit: ninja'd!

the glass diffusers sometimes work and sometimes don't for DIY, the reactor also has a better diffusion rate.
