Question How necessary is K2SO4

I have never dosed K2SO4; only KNO3, KH2PO4, and micros.

I have had algae problems for quite a while and am wondering if i need something extra.

So, is K2SO4 necessary?

K2SO4 is for your potassium, K, which is already in the KNO3 and KH2PO4.

So unless your plants are showing signs of K deficiency, you won't have to dose K2SO4.

Or if your water supply is high in phosphates already, K2SO4 is a good replacement for dosing K w/o also adding P from the KH2PO4. High phosphates (w/ low N/K) have caused BBA in my tanks before.

Agree with the others. I personally have a fairly heavy fish load and testing for my N and P I am at 10-20ppm and 3-5ppm, respectively, even without dosing anything. Therefore I dose K2SO4 so that K is not the limited factor. Otherwise, as mentioned, dosing the KNO3 and KH2PO4 should give you all the K you need.
