manzanita rotting in tank?

I have some manzanita that i bought here that has been in the tank for about 5 weeks. the wood was pressured washed, boiled, scrubbed and was leech free and sunk before i put it in the tank. i noticed a few days after i put it in that there was like sawdust in the tank.

the sawdust looked like fish crap although there are no fish. after wondering and gravel cleaning the stuff out i figured out the wood is very soft and falling apart.

does everyone else have the rotten wood problem with manzanita?

i pulled the pieces out today to tie moss etc on them and noticed they are very soft. all the pieces i have are old cracked up and mostly gray in color so its old sundried wood. soft enough to get a hand full of brown color and wood chips if i rub my hand on them.

how is this wood good for the tank if its gonna rot and all apart in the tank?

i know its not sawdust lol. i boiled and ran the wood through the dishwasher 3 times before i soaked it.its just wood particles coming off the wood

when i removed the wood today and put it on some plastic i noticed the wood terds on the plastic after i moved it around. i guess i wont be buying this soft stuff ever again, my mopani makes this stuff like styrofoam in hardness comparison and no wood terds lol

well outta the 20+ pieces i have there all soft. this is the same wood everyone here buys and loves so much. i think its way to soft.
i know i am the only person ever to complain the wood is soft but most people have no clue what hard wood is anyway.

i told the manzanita guy here some of the wood was rotten and really soft so they sent me more, the newer wood is worse than what i had lol. i see packs that have the same grey colored rotten looking wood in the so i know im not alone here.

i know i sound like the biggest bittchey in the world but i have spent alot of time tieing moss to this wood that i might have to remove and sell to someone who loves the soft stuff.

DOES YOUR WOOD LOOK LIKE THIS? CRACKED UP? THANKS!

who has had this wood in there tank for 6 months to a year? if so put your hand on it and see if it flakes off like rottten or is hard like oak

there is over 60 kinds of manzanita wood, maybe some is harder than others. i did a search and see most people using very fresh wood that is sandblasted. this stuff cant be sandblasted becasue there wouldnt be anything left lol.

I have wood from here for over a year with no problems, in fact I just rearranged some of it a few weeks ago and it is still as strong as the day it arrived. As I'm writing this I got up to check the wood I purchased about 6 weeks ago and it is also doing very well in the tank. I tried to break a corner off and it wouldn't budge without some elbow grease. I'm not sure what's going on with your batch.

I know most people here love that wood and have no problems with it. I would ask the seller to send you a few sample branches from another collection of wood. Maybe the lot of branches yours came from was just a bad lot since I haven't heard of any other problems with the wood.

this is my 2nd batch of wood. the brown/red pieces are hard. the white grey colored pieces are soft as pine lumber. i can scatch chunks out with my fingernail easily.not with the brown stuff. i thought of sandblasting but i wont have much wood left. i think the grey is not good as its flakey to last long.

No else's manzanita has gotten soft in their tanks. Mine hasn't. Contact the seller, see what (s)he has to say about your situation.

I don't know about you, but I'd be pissed if someone sold me that wood.
