Hc turning black/mush - emmersed Tom Barr style?

I ordered Hc from Foster and Smith, it arrived pretty quickly however it had the tiniest of leaves (I have HC in another tank whose leaves are way bigger)

Anyways I broke it up and planted it EMMERSED (TOMM BARR STYLE)
However when I woke up this morning 1 or 2 of the dime sized clumps had a little blackening area in them.

Any idea why?

Perhaps when breaking the pieces i might have crushed the leaves to much.

STATS:
1.5WPG 10,000K
Schultz Aquasoil
Water has generic ferts (Leaf Zone - double dosed since susbtrate will CEC)
Water is touching the roots and some leaves, most leaves are outside the water

No worries, its will bounce back in a few days. I had the same worries. Check out my thread on emersed HC growth. And see the latest pics

also, make sure the water DOES NOT rise higher than your substrate. this is very important

if you are cover the tank with plastic wrap, make sure to make some holes in the plastic for gas circulation.

I did do the plastic wrap, however I Dont think I have high humidity!!! Since most emmerse setups ive seen have condensation on glass all over. Mine doesnt seem to be doing this. But I still have some open points.

Temp 24C (~70s F) Humidity is 50% (Room)

mine is completely sealed, no open points at all. i dont think youll get the condensation with open holes, and the plants may dry out...
