where to find data on freshwater aquarium industry

hi all,

i am looking around for references providing data on the freshwater aquarium industry, especially as it pertains to planted tanks. i have found the Internet to be a thin source and the few articles that i have encountered have required purchase for several hundred dollars.

does anybody have any suggestions for good places to look? thanks.

cheers,

-D

What do you mean by "industry"?

Livestock (plants, fish), dry goods? Wholesalers? etc.

do you mean that i can find stuff through "Florida Aquaculture"? i encountered this site

http://www.floridaaquaculture.com/index.htm

.......but there isn't much information there.

i have seen a few sources that cite growth in popularity of aquarium fish, but the little bit of specific information is all in reference to marine aquariums.

Give us specifics as to what you are looking for and why, and it might be easier for us to help you. Right now your throwing a stone into a dark cave hoping for splash, not knowing if there is water in there.

Then get on the phone if you cannot find it on the web, call the Tampa bay Aquarium, they have a lot of data and display all about it.

I'm sure they can point you to the right place or provide you with the info you need.

The resources you want are probably available at the business library of any large academic library. Or requestable from Inter Library Loan. You might have to go there in person to use some of the resources, but that will allow you to avail yourself of a helpful librarian too.

Good luck. Much of the industry is family owned so they don't have to file public reports, by the way.

thanks. those are good ideas. i do intend to see which trade magazines and other publications i might be able to find through the public library.

i have accumulated quite a lot of information already just by interviewing people, but i hope to get more real numbers to beef this up.
