vacuuming the carpet

Do I need to vacuum my dhg carpet? I have shrimp that take care of the food scraps, its just the poop haha! I would think leaving it could become ferts, but pollute the tank too?

You don't have to unless you don't like the look of it, if the tank is well planted it shouldn't be a problem.

Becomes fert. Leave it.

If you do not like it you can use fine tubing like air tubing or just a bit larger to vacuum the debris with minimal disturbance to the plants. It is slow, but that is the point: Slow water movement, and small tools (in this case the fine tubing) next to the plants do the least damage.
I would keep my hand wrapped around the part of the tubing that is draining to the bucket and be ready to pinch it off or fold it to slow or stop the vacuum in case of a problem.

Here's what I do if I want to get debris off my carpet:

Turn off any flow in the tank
While you vacuum just run your hand to kick up the debris a little then vacuum it up.

It's dangerous to vacuum directly over the carpet depending on what it is. You do not want to uproot it lol

Also +1 to you don't really need to do it anyways
